About Lāszlō Marosvāri

László Marosvári was born on November 24, 1949 in Tiszapüspöki. Before changing his name in 1985, he was knows as László Magda. He had been attracted to musical instruments since his childhood. His good ear and excellent drawing skills became evident during his elementary school years - his drawings were exhibited, and he was also a choir member - and all these skills are still in great use of in his works. As a result of marrying into a family of musicians in 1976, he came into close contact with the violin. Soon after, small scale violin repair turned into a full-scale hobby. He felt it was important to learn how to play the violin, and because of this, he signed up for lessons at the Music School in Balassagyarmat.
In 1983 he moved to Budapest, and in 1984 on his own, he made his first violin based on the technical advices of the violin-maker István Balázs. During the next few years to come, as an amateur, he received inspiration and advice of the aesthetic nature from the great mater, Pál Sáránszky. In 1991, after preparing independently he passed the trade examination and his dissertation was deemed outstanding. In June of that year, he successfully obtained his master’s certificate as well, from the master’s examination committee chaired by Pál Sáránszky. In 1993, at the Budapest International Instrument Making Competition an international jury, let by Gio Batta Morassi qualified his viola as category winner and expressed it’s recognition by awarding him with the “Golden Wreath” for Master Craftsman. The viola was bought by the Republic of Hungary for the Franz Liszt University of Music. In 1995 he bought a house in Újpest, where he lived with his family having a workshop attached to his home.
In general, he makes modern instruments based on his own forms, striving for characteristic appearance. He makes copies solely upon special orders because of various wishes and needs. He earned a good reputation as one who is able to turn acoustically weak instruments into instruments to “concert shape”. He makes his own varnish and colored varnish, purfling and other accessories. He makes violas of all sizes. The models are his own, but always considering the details based on to the customers’ wishes, their hand types, arm length etc. On regular basis he also trains apprentices.
In 2005 he received a certificate to award his musical instrument displayed at the exhibition of handicrafts organised in the Museum of Applied Arts. In November 2005 at the exhibition called ’Recital’ that was organised in Fonó Music House of Buda his violin was awarded the first prize in the category of Folk Music. In the same year, he was forced to give up his enterprise as the musicians who had provided work for him became unemployed and then he repaired the musical instruments at Erkel Gyula State Music School in Újpest as a worker of public utility until 2011. He was retired in 2013, divorced and moved from Budapest to Nagykörű, where he bought a single family house.
As his name has become familiar from the music life of Szolnok County, the members of the local Symphonic Orchestra hire him with various repairs of their musical instruments. Besides, he is also responsible for repairing the instruments of the music schools of Jászberény, Szolnok, Törökszentmiklós, Mezőtúr and Tiszakécske.
